Part of the Monochrome series, 'Breathe' is a reflection on pollution and the invisibility of environmental damage from major industry. Oxygen, one of the foundations of life itself, stolen daily without us even blinking an eye. A daily haze over every city in the world, few of us ever escaping long enough to know the difference and gain perspective.

As Kangaroo Island is 13 km's off the coast of mainland Australia the Ligurian Bee's have been protected from disease and breeding with other species of honey bee, as a consequence the Kangaroo island honey bee is the purest strain of honey bee in the world. The last stronghold fending off a world that threatens it's very existance, they were almost wiped out during the 2020 Kangaroo island fires that destroyed 48% of the island but conservation efforts and natures survival instincts have ensured their population is again growing in numbers.
Made with charcoal infused ligurian bees wax this piece is a tribute to the growing extinction threat of the honey bee and the enduring Ligurian bee's survival of the Kangaroo island 2020 fires.
